2 hour-walk for the south or the north route

A route for visiting the Kurome River basin dotted with scenic and historical sites of Katayamago.
Starting at the Museum of History, the south route takes you to the bell at Mangyo-ji Temple in Nodera that was celebrated by poets such as Ariwara no Narihira and Shogoin Doko, Takeshino shrine that carries on the legend of Minamoto no Yoriie, the sanctum of Takimi Kannon in Ishigami which is famous for the legend of the Kannon statue, and the sanctum of Buddha. Along the north route, there are the venerable Hodai-ji Temple that has a trace of the Jisyu temple, and the Hikawa shrine in Baba that has a long history as a tutelary deity of Katayamago. Myoon stream where Benzaiten, or the goddess of music, instructed the villagers how to play Biwa, or Japanese lute, in ancient times. The Kurome area is full of historical impressions such as Ichibazaka ruins which is an important site in the Prefecture that shows how the people in paleolithic era used to live, or Arasawa Acala who refused to be placed in a sanctum because he was still a trainee.
